The brief
An imagined restaurant run by a father who goes to the fish market every morning and a daughter who runs the floor. Cantonese families booking a round table, and first-timers who see “market price” and order the fried rice instead.
The problem
Live seafood is the best dish and the hardest to sell online. Prices change daily and the names are Chinese.
Design decisions
Type
Familjen Grotesk for English. Chinese names and the vertical strips use each device's own Chinese fonts.
Colour
Tile green, tank jade, ink, paper and one lobster red, kept for that morning's pick.
Layout
Tap a strip and it explains the dish and how the price works. A first-timer guide walks through pick, cook, weigh. Big tables can reserve a crab or lobster.
The thing people remember
The menu-strip wall: navigation, translation and daily special in one.
